How to Make a Roblox Shirt

From a blank template to a shirt people can buy: how the template works, three ways to design it, how to test it, and how to upload and sell it on Roblox.

Robux is Roblox’s in-game currency. Every Robux fee in this guide is charged by Roblox when you upload or sell. Designing your shirt here is free.

Shirt, t-shirt or pants?

Roblox has three kinds of classic clothing. Pick one before you start: they use different images.

Shirt 585×559

Covers the whole torso and both arms.

T-shirt 512×512

One square picture on the chest only.

Pants 585×559

Covers the hips and both legs.

Making a t-shirt? It’s simpler: see the Roblox t-shirt template. For pants, use the pants template. The rest of this guide covers shirts, and pants work the same way.

1Get to know the template

The flat 585×559 template
Red = body, blue and green = arms

A Roblox shirt is one 585×559 image. Roblox folds it around a blocky body: each box on the template is one face of a body part, seen from outside.

The top cross is the torso: chest in the middle, back on the right, sides beside the chest, shoulders above and the waist below. The two crosses at the bottom are the arms.

Anything outside the boxes is thrown away, and transparent areas show the avatar’s skin. Download the blank and labeled templates.

2Design your shirt

Three ways to fill in the template. They all end with a 585×559 PNG.

In the free maker

Pick a style, colors and fabric on a 3D avatar, add details, text or your own image, and download. No image editor needed. Open the shirt maker.

In an image editor

Open a blank template in Photopea, Paint.NET or any editor with layers, paint inside the boxes, and lay a shading template on top.

With AI

Describe the whole garment (“black hoodie with a white skull”) in the maker’s AI tool and get the front, back and sleeves with real shading. Your first one is free.

Shading makes it look real

A flat color on the template looks like paint on a block. Shading (darker folds, seams and a lighter chest) makes the same color read as fabric.

The maker shades every style for you. In an image editor, lay a free shading template over your colors.

Drag the slider: same color, with and without shading.

3Test it before you pay

Every upload costs 80 Robux, and a fixed version is a new upload. So look at the shirt on a 3D avatar first, from every side.

  • Do the seams line up where the chest meets the sleeves?
  • Is the back what you meant (not a mirrored front)?
  • Do logos sit where you expect on the chest?
  • Do transparent parts show skin only where you want?

Drop your PNG into the Roblox shirt tester to check it free, or test it in Roblox Studio.

4Upload it to Roblox

Uploading happens in the Creator Dashboard, in a web browser.

  1. 1

    Open the Creator Dashboard

On create.roblox.com, go to Creations → Avatar Items and pick the Classics tab.

  2. 2

    Drop in your PNG

Drag the image onto the upload box, or click Upload Asset.

  3. 3

Pick the type and name it

Set Asset Type to Shirt, Pants or T-Shirt, then fill in the name and description.

  4. 4

    Pay and upload

Click Upload and confirm the 80 Robux fee. It isn’t refunded if the item is rejected.

To upload

ID verification (or a linked parent account) and 80 Robux per item.

To sell

2-step verification, Roblox Plus or Premium, and a 10 Robux publishing advance.

To stay on sale

The creator or group owner keeps Roblox Plus or Premium.

5Put it on sale

After Roblox approves the shirt, click it in the Creator Dashboard to open its Configure page. Turn on On Sale and set a price in Robux.

Publishing takes a 10 Robux advance, which Roblox pays back to you as the shirt sells. On every sale you get 30% of the price.

The 10 Robux publishing advance comes back to you as it sells.

Mistakes that cost Robux

Wrong image size

Shirts and pants must be exactly 585×559. Resize the canvas, don’t stretch the art.

Art outside the boxes

Anything between or outside the template boxes never shows on the avatar.

Seams that don’t match

Where two boxes meet on the body (chest and sleeve, front and side) the edge colors should line up.

Uploading the labeled template

Remove guide colors and labels before export, or they end up on the shirt.

Skipping the test

Every upload costs 80 Robux even if you upload a fixed version later. Preview it in 3D first.

Copying someone’s design

Re-uploading another creator’s clothing breaks Roblox rules and gets items removed.

Questions

How much does it cost to make a Roblox shirt?

Designing it is free. Uploading costs 80 Robux per item, and putting it on sale takes a 10 Robux publishing advance that Roblox pays back from your sales.

Can I make a Roblox shirt without Premium?

You can design and upload without it, but to publish clothing for sale (and keep it on sale) the creator or group owner needs Roblox Plus or Premium.

Can I make a Roblox shirt on my phone?

Yes. The RoShirtMaker shirt maker works in a phone browser: design on the avatar, download the PNG, then upload it from the Creator Dashboard in your browser.

How long does it take for my shirt to be approved?

Roblox moderates every upload before it appears. It is often quick, but it can take longer; it shows on your Creator Dashboard once it’s through.

How much do I earn when someone buys my shirt?

Creators get 30% of the price of each sale on the Marketplace. A shirt sold for 10 Robux earns you 3 Robux.
